It can be tricky knowing where and how to start when it comes to recycling. With a big focus on minimising our carbon foot print and preventing waste we’ve put together a few tips and tricks that may help you with your recycling journey.

But first, we’d love to share with you a few facts that you may or may not know about the Anchor Light Proof Bottle:

1. The Anchor Light Proof bottle is made from HDPE* plastic (grade 2), the same material as a clear milk bottle.
2. The Anchor Light Proof Bottle is 100% recyclable in New Zealand
3. Since August 2017, Fonterra has recycled 426,960 kg of milk bottles straight from the factory or collected from our customers, like Sky Cafe, BP petrol stations and Middlemore Hospital. This is the equivalent weight of 593 cows!
4. Red and Blue milk crates in the supermarket, which milk bottles are delivered in, are made from 10% recycled milk bottles
5. The HDPE resin from a milk bottle can be recycled up to 7 more times!
6. HDPE resin from our milk bottles is recycled to make a number of items such as rubbish bins, recycling crates, rural piping, and shampoo bottles.

Now for the recycling tips:

1. With our Anchor Light Proof bottles being 100% recyclable* in New Zealand, you can pop them in your recycling bin for kerbside collection by your local council.
2. Rinse out your milk bottles before placing them into the recycling bin, this helps with processing at the recycling centres
3. Before recycling packaging it’s always worth asking the question, is there another use for the packaging? There are loads of awesome ideas out there for reusing milk bottles, one of our favourites is pricking holes in the bottle cap and reusing the water bottle as a makeshift watering can for the garden. Not only does this mean you are reusing your milk bottle, it means your limiting the amount of water used on your garden instead of using a hose.
